How to build credibility in just 2 steps

Why should someone want to work with you?

If you want to help your audience say yes to you, you'll need to reassure them that you are the right person to help.

How do you do that?

Focus on two things: your empathy, and your authority.

Credibility in 2 steps:

1️⃣ Empathy

2️⃣ Authority

👉🏽 Empathy

As human beings, we are constantly looking for connection to others. We want to be seen, heard, and understood.

This is the essence of empathy.

Tell your audience that you've walked in their shoes, and that you want to help them find a solution to their problem.

If you are willing to be a bit vulnerable, share a sentence or two about your own experience so that they feel reassured that you get it, and aren't speaking from a lofty, disconnected point of view.

For example:

"We understand how helpless you feel when your students struggle to read at grade level. We spent 10 years looking for good literacy tools and resources for educators, but never found what we wanted. So we created them ourselves."

👉🏽 Authority

While empathy is important, it's only part of the equation. How can you prove your competence?

Here's where you can share testimonials, statistics, awards, press mentions, and the logos of the organizations you've worked with.

  • Testimonials provide social proof - there's nothing better than a happy client or customer who is willing to sing your praises.

  • Round up statistics such as the number of people you've served, years of experience, how much time or money you've saved, and so on.

  • Have you won a coveted award or recognition? Add that!

  • If you've been featured in a major press publication, mention it and add the logo of the paper or magazine.

  • Logos of the companies and organizations you've served are a good section to add to your website too.

Be sure to add elements of both empathy and authority to your Homepage and your About Us page, and you'll reassure your customers that you are exactly the person they're looking for.
