How to win against AI

Many writers and marketers I know are panicking about AI, afraid that they will be replaced by robots and rendered obsolete.

Case in point: about six months ago, I posted a few articles and opinions about AI on my LinkedIn, only to have a local acquaintance tear me down in the comments below the posts.

He's a journalist and an author, and he took me to task for not fighting AI full-force as a fellow creative.

Since I've never experienced aggression on LinkedIn (I mean seriously, who does that?!), I removed him from my connection list, because he was such a pain in the behind.

While I acknowledge and understand his fear, I refuse to give in to it.

I'm going all in and using AI when I can to save myself time and headache.

But I can't (and don't) use it for everything because it's not reliable and I'm often not crazy about the output.

My final work product always layers in my own critical thinking and judgement.

AI doesn't replace my human value or discernment - it's just a tool.

So if you are afraid of AI (like the guy I booted from the LinkedIn connection list), please remember this:

Your authentic voice is more important than ever.

We are seeing more and more AI-generated content than ever before, and I don't see that changing.

So when I run across people who are courageous enough to be original and imperfect, I remember them.

As a marketer, I tell my clients that when they talk to everyone, they talk to no one.

AI is great at being generic and unmemorable.

But you? You are unique. So go out there and be 100% yourself.

Be quirky, be imperfect, be human.

That's how we win against AI.
